Once registered, runners will make their way to the start area for a race and safety briefing. The start area will be at the Woodside Road entrance of the Lamb Doyle’s car park.

When the race starts, runners will make their way up Woodside Road for approximately 350m where they will turn right onto a smaller road. Care must be taken on this road section as there may be cars travelling in both directions. Once this right turn has been taken there is a sharp left turn in approximately 40m which will bring the runners onto the trail system.

The start of the trail will begin narrow but will widen as you proceed. There will be some forks in the trail as you gain height but they will be well marked with red and white tape and/or marshals. Once you have completed the first trail section you will come to a large cross junction at the bottom of the “bone shaker” trail where there will be a marshal. From here you will turn left and proceed east along a trail which will then turn into a forest road.

You will pass a barrier on the forest road that will be open on the day, continue along this road rising gently for about 500 metres; continue around a bend to the right. A short distance after the bend, there is a minor track to the left off the forest road which leads into a forest.

Once in the forest follow the trail until such time as you come to a farm gate. Do not pass through this gate but instead, turn right and follow a grassy track uphill keeping the fence to your left hand side. You will continue uphill ignoring some tracks that will be on your right hand side. Once you have gotten to the end of this grassy uphill track you will emerge out onto a forest road and will need to turn right.

Once on the forest road, runners will proceed right and continue uphill. Runners will continue straight past a right hand turn on the forest road until they see a left hand turn that will take them off the forest road and onto a rocky trail. After about 200m of this rocky trail runners will take a sharp right hand turn into a forest where there is a slight trail. Please be aware of low hanging branches once in this forest section.

Once this forest section has been navigated runners will emerge out onto a trail where they will continue in the same direction of travel for approximately 20m and then will turn left. Once the runners have turned left they will continue along that path ignoring a slight right hand turn to continue onto the Dublin Way Trail where they will turn left.

Once on the Dublin Way Trail, continue here with about 1.5k of running on forest roaduntil you reach a tree line which you will pass through and turn right. When you have taken this right turn you will start the climb that will take you up towards the summit of Fairy Castle. Once at Fairly Castle summit you will be directed left and will continue downhill until you get to the junction where the long course splits away from the short course.

At this junction, the short course runners will turn right and continue along the Wicklow Way Trail until they get to a T-junction at the bottom of some rocky steps where they will turn right. At this junction there will be a drop out point and an aid station.

After this right hand turn runners will proceed on for approximately 600m where they will then leave the fire road taking a sharp turn left turn onto a trail, following which there will be a number of zig zags. Once on the trail, runners will follow the red and white tape until they reach the head of a tarmac road which they will follow for approximately 30m.

At this point runners will take a sharp right up a steep trail which will cross over a tarmac road and eventually bring them to a T-junction at a tree line. At the T-junction runners will turn left and continue down the “boneshaker” track until you reach the same large junction you were at earlier on towards the beginning of the race.

Once registered, runners will make there way to the start area for a race and safety briefing. The start area will be at the Woodside Road entrance of the Lamb Doyle’s car park.

When the race starts, runners will make there way up Woodside Road for approximately 350m where they will turn right onto a smaller road. Care must be taken on this road section as there may be cars travelling in both directions. Once this right turn has been taken there is a sharp left turn in approximately 10m which will bring the runners onto the trail system.

Do not pass through this gate but instead, turn right and follow a grassy track uphill keeping the fence just to your left hand side.

At this junction there will be a drop out point and an aid station.

At this junction the long course runners will turn left and run down a stony track for about 1k until they come to a 90 degree left turn. After this turn the runners will continue along for about 240m and then turn right along a trail marked as DMW. ~300 metres along this track runners will turn left onto a small single track mountain biking route. After about 1.8km, the track improves, and eventually it turns into a forest road after a further few hundred metres. They then reach a fork in the forest road and take the left fork. Soon after that (about 200 metres), they turn left onto a narrow path leading to the Pine Forest (Tibradden) car park entrance.

At this gate, there will be a drop out point and an aid station. There will also be a cut off here for the long course runners which will be set at 1pm sharp. Runners who arrive after this time will not be allowed to complete the final loop of Cruagh and instead must turn around and follow the race route home, as described below. Please note that if you miss the cut off you will still get a result but this will be a separate result with only the people who have failed to meet the cut off on that result sheet.

If you have arrived at the cut off in time you will then proceed to cross the road. Please take care here as there may be traffic in both directions. Once across the road you will pass through a gate which will lead you onto a fire road. You will continue along this fire road, following the right hand bend and proceeding to the first junction where you will take a left turn. You will then continue uphill and after a sharp right hand bend you will then need to take a sharp left hand turn off the fire road up onto a wooden board walk section. This will take you south for about 300m.

Once at the end of the board walk you will turn right. You will have forestry on your right and open mountain on your left. You will continue along a rocky trail for about 1.3k where you will then need to take a sharp right hand turn into the forest. You will travel north along a fire break for about 200m before you hit the fire road again. When you get back to the fire road you will turn left and follow the fire road which will bend to the right. After about 200m you will need to turn left and then soon after that left there will be a right hand turn onto a forest trail.

When on that forest trail you will be guided by tape and marshals in an easterly direction until such time as you re-emerge on the fire road that you originally started on. From here you will need to cross the road again and travel back up the forest trails. Again, care is need on this road crossing due to potential traffic in both directions.

When you have climbed back up the forest trails you will be guided by tape and marshals up onto the Tibradden ridge. Instead of going back along the single track on your right hand side you will travel south east along the main Tibradden ridge path. This is a very well groomed path which after about 2k will take you to a t-junction. At this junction you will turn left and travel 150m where you will be meet by a marshal and/or tape. Here you will turn right and then you will need to travel back up the rocky path.

This will take you back to the short/long course split where you will need to turn left. After this left the long course runners will continue along the Wicklow Way Trail until they get to a T-junction at the bottom of some rocky steps where they will turn right. After this right hand turn runners will proceed on for approximately 600m where they will then leave the fire road taking a sharp turn left onto a trail, following which there will be a number of zigs zags. Once on the trail, runners will follow the red and white tape until they reach the head of a tarmac road which they will follow for approximately 30m.

At this point runners will take a sharp right up a steep trail which will cross over another tarmac road and eventually bring them to a T-junction at a tree line. At the T-junction runners will turn left and continue down the “boneshaker” track until you reach the same large cross junction you were at earlier on towards the beginning of the race.

At this point the loops will be completed and from here it is just a case of following the trails that you originally travelled up on at the start of the race and then the last road section that will bring you back to the pub car park and finish line.
